Representative Tom Dempsey is currently serving as the
Majority Floor Leader in the Missouri House of Representatives. He was first
elected in November 2000 and serves on the following committees:
Ethics-Chairman, Special Committee on Parliamentary Procedure-Chairman,
Rules-Vice Chair. He also serves on the Joint Committee on Economic
Development, Policy, and Planning; the Joint Committee on Legislative Research;
and the Joint Interim Committee on Missouri Healthcare Stabilization Fund.
In addition to his legislative duties, Representative
Dempsey is General Manager for the Columns Banquet & Conference Center, which he
has managed since 1992. A third generation restaurateur, he is the grandson of Pio and Mary Pedrucci who opened
Pio’s Restaurant in St. Charles in 1955.
Prior to his position as Floor Leader, Representative
Dempsey served as Chairman of the Job Creation & Economic Development Committee
where he moved 4 major economic development bills to improve Missouri’s business
climate through the House.
During his tenure, he has received the following awards:
the RCGA Lewis and Clark Statesman Award 2002-2005, the St. Louis Business
Journal Legislative Award 2002-2005, Missouri Farm Bureau Friend of Agriculture
Award, the Missouri Chamber of Commerce Spirit of Enterprise Award, the
Community College Association’s Distinguished Legislator Award, and the American
Cancer Society’s Gary Wiggins Statesman Award.
He is a 1985 graduate of DeSmet Jesuit High School and a
1989 graduate of Rockhurst University in Kansas City where he received a
Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. He also studied Culinary Arts
at Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island.
Representative Dempsey serves on the Senior Dental Services
Advisory Board and is a member of the St. Charles Rotary and St. Charles Chamber
of Commerce. He is a member of St. Cletus Catholic Church.
